The track and field team put up 18 points on day one of the NCAA Championships.

🔺 Day One. The men’s track and field NCAA Championship qualifiers began their journey on Wednesday. The Lobos put up 18 points in the 10,000m final as the NCAA record holder becomes the NCAA Champion, as Ishmael Kipkurui takes the win in 29:07.70 ahead of teammate and 2024 champ Habtom Samuel. The men are the first Lobos to go 1-2 at the Championships in program history.
🔺 Not Done Yet. Seven women’s track & field athletes will begin their NCAA Outdoor Championship journey today! Judy Rono will get things started in the 1,500m semifinal at 5:21 p.m. Sophia McDonnell will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase semifinal shortly after. At 7:56 p.m., Pamela Kosgei will race in the 10,000m final. The 4×400m relay team will race at 8:36 p.m.
🔺 Four Years Later… Track and field athlete Hannah Kiess was a third-year student at New Mexico when she decided to join the team. Kiess was an active member of Kappa Delta Chi and hadn’t been training since finishing her track career at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Less than two years after emailing Kyra Mohns to join the team, she has rewritten part of UNM’s record books.
