🔺 Coach Award. Football defensive coordinator Spence Nowinsky was named to the 2025 Broyles Award. He is one of 63 nominees for the honor. The award recognizes college football’s top assistant coaches. Nowinsky has led the nation’s most improved rush defense in the FBS, shaving off more than 106 yards per game from a year ago.

🔺 Comeback. The men’s basketball team was down 15 points and rallied back to beat Alabama State 93-87. The men shot 50% from the field and 46.15% from behind the arc. Jake Hall led New Mexico with 24 points and tied the freshman record with seven 3-pointers. The win marks the 15th straight victory at The Pit, tying the longest home win streak since the 2018-19 season.

🔺 Awards! The cross country team had two postseason awards. Habtom Samuel was named the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Men’s Athlete of the Year and Darren Gauson has been named Regional Coach of the Year. Samuel won his first NCAA XC title. This marks Guason’s first Cross Country Regional COTY award.
