📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Head Honcho On The Mic. Today, we’re bringing you Coach Danny Gonzales mic’d up during fall camp. We’re entering year four of the Gonzales era and things are looking bright. Last season, the Lobos lowered their total defense yards per game and had a top-30 passing defense. The Lobos finished the season with eight All-Mountain West picks.
🔼 Game On. Who doesn’t love a good rivalry? The Rio Grande Rivalry is officially back and scheduled for New Mexico and New Mexico State basketball! The men’s basketball team will have a home-and-home series with the Aggies, hosting them in The Pit on December 2 and going to Las Cruces on December 15. The women’s team will host the Aggies on December 2 also. Game times will be announced at a later date.
🔼 Counting Down. The Rio Grande Rivalry has also been known as the Battle of I-25, and that’s how many days there are until football season — 25! The Lobos made 25 sacks last season for 152 yards. Cody Moon led the team with 4.5 sacks while Reco Hannah and Justin Harris had 4. Cody and Reco were both Mountain West Honorable Mentions last season. The Lobos finished in the top 50 in total defense in 2021 and 2022. They also finished in the top 35 in third down defense and top 25 in defensive first downs.
🔼 Amateur Hour. New Mexico golfer Lauren Lehigh teed off at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in Los Angeles yesterday! The tournament includes two 18-hole qualifying rounds before the top-64 amateurs advance to match play tomorrow. Television coverage will be available when match play begins on The Golf Channel.
Lauren had a 73.08 average for the 2022-23 season, ranking second on the team. In the 2021-22 season she was an NCAA Regional Individual Qualifier and led the team with her scoring average.
