Lobos Brew 5/8: Going The Distance

Today, Lobos remain in top 25, plus meet several new Lobos.

Good morning! We have several new Lobos for you to meet down below!

What else is steeping in today’s Brew?

⛳️ Lobos remain in top 25
🏀 Meet the Lobos
🐺 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Finish Strong. Both Lobos representing the Cherry & Silver finished round two in the top 25 at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional. Myah McDonald sits tied for 13th at 1-under. She sits three shots behind the lowest individual not on an advancing team. Lauren Lehigh is at 2-over and tied for 21st. The regional will conclude tomorrow with the final round.

🔼 Welcome To New Mexico. The women’s basketball team is welcoming Joana Magalhães from Libson, Portugal! The 5’5 guard played for CRC Quinta Dos Lombos and won the 2023-24 National Championship. She won another championship with Quinta Do Marquês in 2021-22. She said she fell in love with The Pit immediately on her visit.

Joana is a quick ball-handling point guard who knows how to control the game. She is a good three-point shooter and we’re excited to see how she develops as a Lobo.

🔼 Mo Mowamba. Another new member of the women’s basketball team is Lydie Mwamba from the Republic Democratic of Congo! The 5’11 guard spent the last two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College where she was named NJCAA Second Team All-American and Second Team All-Conference. She averaged 16.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season. She attended Hyde School in Maine and Coventry Christian School in Pennsylvania where she was a two-time champion and scored 1,000 points. Fun fact, she speaks five languages — French, English, Lingala, Swahili, and Tshiluba.

Lydie is a big, athletic guard who can put it on the floor and get it at the rim. She is a really good three-point shooter who knows how to play and has a chance to be a great defender. We can’t wait for her to get here.

🔼 Going The Distance. Cross country and track & field coach Darren Gauson signed Kenyan distance superstar Pamela Kosgei to the roster for next season! She was a third-place individual finisher at the U20 World Cross Country Championships in 2023, a U20 African champion, and senior Kenyan national champion in the 3,000m steeplechase. She’ll compete as a freshman in the fall in cross country.
