Lobos Brew 6/19: Honoring Legends

Today, we're talking coaching changes and a former Lobo speaking out.

Good morning! The Brew is out of office most weekends, so we didn’t get a chance, but be sure to wish Lobo Louie and Lucy a happy belated National Mascot Day if you see them!

What are we throwing into today’s Brew?

🎽 Legendary status
⛳️ Lobos on the big stage
🐺 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Thank You, Coach. After 16 years of success at New Mexico, Coach Joe Franklin is moving on to Louisville. Coach Franklin led the cross country and track & field programs since 2007. He won National Coach of the Year three times and led the Lobos to two NCAA Women’s Cross Country Championships.

Hit The Fairway. There were a handful of Lobos teeing off on big stages over the weekend.

⛳️ Former All-American Sam Choi kicked off his professional career with a T5 finish at the Royal Beach Victoria Open.

⛳️ Bastien Amat and Victor Perez both played at the U.S. Open, with former Lobos as caddies. Check them out here!

⛳️ Brandon Shong finished in 3rd and incoming freshman Adam Miller finished in 35th at the Southwestern Amateur Golf Tournament.

🔼 Counting Down The Days. There are 75 days until kick-off, so we’re going to highlight our No. 75: J.C. Davis. The junior started all 12 games at left tackle last season and received Honorable Mention All-Mountain West honors. He was the highest graded offensive lineman on the team and earned the Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award. He’s on Athlon Sports preseason fourth team offense.

🐺 ONE BIG THING

Let’s Talk. Former Lobo and NBA star Tony Snell went on the Today Show to open up about being diagnosed with autism at 31 years old. When his son was diagnosed, he realized that he too needed to be checked out. Tony was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft and spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, and the New Orleans Pelicans.
