🔼 Talkin’ Tennessee Tech. It’s game week and Tennessee Tech is coming to town. The Lobos and Golden Eagles have never played each other, but New Mexico has a pretty good history with home openers lately. The Lobos have won 7-straight home openers and dominated Maine 41-0 in last season’s. This year, fans will see the first full usage of the new dynamic lighting system that can be programmed to music and light shows.

🔼 One Of A Kind. The men’s tennis team has the only ranked Mountain West player! Arda Azkara came in at No. 115 in singles in the ITA Preseason Rankings. He’s been a two-time Hall of Honor Male Athlete of the Year during his time at New Mexico.

🔼 Hall Of Honor. The 2023 Hall of Honor class has been announced and will be inducted in a ceremony on November 2. Here are the honorees:

  • Matthieu Amgwerd (Tennis 1998-2000): The inaugural Mountain West Student-Athlete of the Year in 2000. Holds the record high for UNM Men’s Tennis with a No. 6 ranking in singles. Led the Lobos to their first ever Mountain West title in any sport.

  • Andy Boyens (Soccer 2004-2006): Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Newcomer of the Year and three-time First-Team select. 2006 Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, MPSF Co-Player of the Year, MPSF Player of the Year, first round draft selection in MLS SuperDraft, and New Zealand World Cup roster.

  • Danny Granger (Basketball 2003-2005): Mountain West Tournament MVP, NBA first round draft pick, NBA All-Rookie Second Team, NBA All-Star, NBA Most Improved Player, and 2016 New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Induction.

  • Michael Putnam (Golf 1978-1982): Two-time NCAA All-America, All-WAC, PGA Tour member, PGA Assistant Professional Champion, and Five-time New Mexico Open Champion.

  • Bernard “Bernie” Rivers (Track & Field 1964-1967): Established an NCAA Freshman record in the 220-yard dash. NCAA All-American, WAC Champion in the 100-yard dash, ranked No. 12 in the world in the 100 and 7th in the 220. Set UNM school records in five events. Ran 8/10 of the fastest times in Lobo history in the 100-yard dash.

  • Tom Daulton (Swimming & Water Polo 1973-1977) - Distinguished Service Award

🐺 ONE BIG THING

Garver’s Four-For-Four. Former Lobo baseball player Mitch Garver has been showing confidence and consistency with the Texas Rangers. On Sunday, he went 4-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs in the win over the Minnesota Twins. He’s been bringing the heat, hitting .308 with 10 homers and 20 RBIs in his last 30 games.
