Lobos Brew 9/20: Hot Shots

Today, we're looking towards conference play, talking golf, and introducing you to the equipment staff.

Good morning! We’re here to start your day with some good news! According to Coach Gonzales, the Buddy Walk had a record setting day on Saturday — raising $128,000! Great job, Lobos.

🎥 A DAY IN THE LIFE

Meet The Staff. The Lobos are headed to UMass for this weekend’s game, but it isn’t as easy as just hopping on a plane. We’re showing you a day in the life of Ashley Nowak, one of the five female equipment managers in the FBS. She handles all of the football team’s laundry, decals, packing trunks, and everything the team needs to play.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Hot Shots. The Lobo soccer team is headed into conference play on fire! They’ve won three of their last four matches and enter Mountain West play at 3-1-2. The Lobos are 5-2-1 in conference openers under Coach Dyche. They head to San José State for a match at 8:00pm MT on the Mountain West Network. The Spartans are 1-2-2 in their last five matches. New Mexico is looking for some revenge, the last time these two met was in the Mountain West Tournament, where San José advanced on penalty kicks.

🔼 Talk To Us, Coach. Don’t forget to make plans tomorrow night for Lobo Talk, live from Salt Yard West. Hear from Coach Gonzales and Robert Portnoy as they look forward to Saturday’s game at UMass and look back at the Rio Grande Rivalry. There’s plenty of food to eat, drinks to drink, and games for kids to play — and we can’t forget Thursday Night Football. You won’t want to miss it! The fun starts at 7:00pm.

🔼 Finished At Four. The men’s golf team had a solid week at the USF Invitational, grabbing a fourth-place team finish. Matthew Watkins secured his second-straight top-five finish of the season, tying for fifth at 8-under. Albert Boneta finished top-10, tying for tenth. The team will be back at it next week at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, the only home event of the season.

🐺 ONE BIG THING

New Mexico Athletics granted Lowell Elementary School $8,000 as part of the College Football Playoff Foundation Big Day for Teachers! Extra Yard for Teachers is the College Football Playoff Foundation’s primary initiative to support teachers across the country.
