Lobos Brew 4/18: It's The Climb

Today, Freshman of the Week, women's golf moves up at the conference tournament, and more!

Good morning! If you don’t have weekend plans, now you do. Come out to the 2024 Spring Football Game on Saturday at 1 pm to get a first look at Coach Bronco Mendenhall’s first Lobo football team.

What else is steeping in today’s Brew?

⛳️ Steady climbing
🏀 Success on and off the court
🐺 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Rockstar Rookie. For the second time this season, Nicolas Recoura picked up Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors! He went 3-0 on the week with wins over Air Force and New Mexico State. Two of those wins were doubles matches and the third was a win at No. 5. This is the fourth time this season that a Lobo freshman has won the weekly award.

🔼 Climbing The Leaderboard. The Lobo women’s golf team climbed three spots on day two of the Mountain West Championship! The Lobos had a phenomenal second round showing, shooting 7-over. They now sit in third-place at 2-over, just one stroke behind second-place UNLV. Lauren Lehigh and Myah McDonald both shot 3-under yesterday to lead the team. Lauren sits in first-place and Myah is tied for second individually. The champion will be crowned today after round three.

🔼 Academic All-Star. Men’s basketball star Jaelen House got things done on the court and in the classroom. The Lobo guard was named 2023-24 Third-Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators! He was one of just 15 DI players nationally recognized for his success on and off the court. Jaelen joins a list of four other Lobo men’s basketball players that have received the honor — Ron Becker, Mark Saiers, Tommy Roberts, and Roman Martinez.

🎥 M’TUCCI’S MUNCHIES

Lobo softball player Sydney Carithers stepped into the kitchen at M’tuccis to chef it up! She joined chef Shawn Cronin to put together muhammara pasta and a chicken wrap. Check it out!

🐺 ONE BIG THING

Start your Saturday at The Pit before the Spring Game! New Mexico will host the second annual UNM Athletics & Project Heart Start CPR Training Event on Saturday from 9 am to noon. There are three sessions at 9, 10, and 11 am that last an hour each. Everyone in the community is invited to learn the basics of CPR and earn a CPR card after the program. People who pre-register here will receive two free tickets to football’s home opener against Montana State on August 24! Fans can show their CPR card after the event for free admission to the softball game against Utah State at 1 pm.
