Lobos Brew 6/27: Justin time

Today, we're keeping up with one of our own just one step away from MLB ball.

Good morning! Did you know that Tuesday is named after the phrase "Tiw's Day", or the day of Tiw, the Norse god of single combat and law and justice? Now, go be the smartest person on your first Zoom call at work this morning.

What all is steeping in today’s Brew?

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 She Reigns. The U.S. women’s national soccer team is playing in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup next month, meaning roster spots have opened up on squads here while the 23 best players in the country compete in Australia and New Zealand next month.

And one of those roster spots is being taken up by none other than a former New Mexico soccer star—Jadyn Edwards has signed with the OL Reign of the National Women’s Soccer League.

Through five years, the former Lobo tallied 31 goals and 24 assists in 94 games played, ending her collegiate career ranked first in New Mexico soccer history in assists and games played and third in goals scored. She’s also a five-time Mountain West Conference champion and a four-time Mountain West All-Conference selection with the Lobos, but among our many memories we’ll always remember her scoring the golden goal and winning the 2021 Mountain West Tournament in overtime!

🔼 Justin Time. A little more than a week ago, former New Mexico baseball’s Justin Armbruester (who probably has the best name for a pitcher ever) was promoted to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, part of the Baltimore Orioles farm system.

And in his debut pitching performance against Nashville?

💪 5.0 innings pitched
🔥 7 strikeouts
🚶 2 walks
💥 2 hits
🚫 0 earned runs

🐺 ONE TWO BIG THINGS

Growing the game. Whether it’s providing a visible example to young fans, or sharing decades worth of experience on the hardwood—Lobos players and coaches are meeting basketball fans, players, and coaches where they’re at and providing a lift to anyone who needs it.
