Lobos Brew 5/1: Keep Building

Today, we're introducing you to the newest Lobos.

Good morning! The Lobos had a walk-off over the weekend, so former Lobo Mitch Garver decided to do it too! He hit a walk-off home run to beat the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.

What else is steeping in today’s Brew?

🐺 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Came Up Short. Lobo baseball fell to New Mexico State in the third edition of the Rio Grande Rivalry last night, 10-8. The Lobos hit their sixth grand slam of the season thanks to Kyle Smith. Khalil Walker extended his hit streak to 14 games as he went 3-for-4. They jumped to an 8-2 lead, but were held scoreless through the last five innings. An Aggie comeback was completed with a walk-off home run in the final frame. The two teams will meet again on May 7 in Albuquerque.

🔼 Meet Filip. There’s a new Lobo signed to the men’s basketball team and his name is Filip Borovicanin. He’s a 6’9 forward from Serbia with two years of eligibility remaining. He transfers to New Mexico from Arizona, where he spent the past two seasons. He played in 20 games off the bench last season as the Wildcats won the Pac-12 title and went to the NCAA Sweet 16. He averaged 2.3 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. Last summer, Filip played for Serbia at the FIBA U19 World Cup where he averaged 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

He has the size and skill to make an impact right away. He will be a terrific addition on the court and in the locker room.

Coach Richard Pitino

🔼 Keep Building. Lobo soccer head coach Heather Dyche has continued to build her team up. Her and her staff have signed four new freshmen to the incoming class, and we’ll tell you who they are.

  • Gabby Beaudry - midfielder from Castle Pines, Colorado. She was a 5A state finalist in 2023 and 5A Continental League Champion in 2022. “I chose UNM because of the amazing atmosphere that is present. The environment at UNM is special, and I cannot wait to be a part of the team,” she says

  • Macie Harris - defender from Snoqualmie, Washington. She can play center back or holding mid. She was First Team All-KingCo. in 2023. She says, “I chose UNM because of the team culture. It is such a positive and fun environment and it felt like a perfect fit. I can’t wait to be a Lobo!”

  • Mackie McNulty - defender from Seattle, Washington. She was named Valley Division First Team in 2022 and 2023, she also earned the 2023 Girls Soccer Scholar-Athlete Award at her high school. She chose New Mexico because, “from the very beginning I could tell how amazing the community is and how they have perfected the competitive yet supportive environment that helps student-athletes thrive.”

  • Savanah Sanchez - forward from Albuquerque. She won state championships in 2021, 2022, and 2023 at Hope Christian. She sits in New Mexico history in goals and assists. She chose to be a Lobo because, “Everything about it just feels right. I love the team, staff, and atmosphere. Getting the opportunity to play for and represent my hometown means so much to me.”
