Lobos Brew 6/26: Keep it in the family

Today, we're hearing Gianna McManaman tell her story.

Good morning! And great news, everyone—after today you’ve only got nine more Mondays until New Mexico football kicks off their season against Texas A&M. No better way to celebrate than by watching spring practice highlights as the Lobos get better on the gridiron.

What all did we throw into today’s Brew?

🏈 We’re on cloud nine
🐺 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Keep It In The Family. “My grandfather is a humongous UNM fan. The first time I came out here I was nine, and he decked me out in the store with a Lobo hat, a basketball, a shirt, and we’re sitting right there. I can see it from here.”

Gianna McManaman can remember her first Lobo basketball game when she was just nine years old and knew that one day she would be playing on The Pit floor. Watch her tell her story of being welcomed into the New Mexico basketball family with open arms—all the way to her putting on the jersey herself.

She joins the Lobos from the Tar Heel State where she was a three-time conference champion with Northwood High School—winning in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and state champion after winning in 2022. Playing on the varsity team all four years, the versatile point guard earned all-county and all-tournament and averaged 12.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game, and shot 43.0% from three-point range.

🔼 Whooooaaaa, We’re Halfway There. Take my hat and we’ll make it, I swear. We’re midway through the deadline to grab your very own New Mexico football season ticket holder hat. Purchase or renew your season tickets by the end of this month and you’ll get a limited edition Lobo hat—solid white, script font, exclusive STH23 on the back. Wear it often. Wear it with pride.

One hat per account if you purchase or renew by the deadline. Hats will be distributed to you in July and more details are on the way!

🐺 ONE BIG THING

Cloud nine. Nine more Mondays until New Mexico football starts their season? Nine Lobos honored by this year’s edition of Phil Steele Magazine.

Coincidence? We think not…

Donte Martin leads the group as a Preseason First Team Mountain West pick after coming in second on the team with six passes defended, and helping lead the unit to a top-50 ranking for the first time since the 2008 season.

Aaron Rodriguez and Christian Washington both earned Preseason Second Team Mountain West honors—Rodriguez averaged 44.2 yards per punt last year (and could move into second in the all-time punting average list!) and Washington led the Mountain West with 26.7 yards per return on kickoffs last season.
