Lobos Brew 8/4: Listen up, Lobos

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Hear Ye, Hear Ye. Fall camp is here and Coach Danny Gonzales met with the media this week ahead of camp. He talked about the roster, the strength in the weight room, and position battles. He also mentions upgrades such as the Lobo facilities, coaches offices, and new practice fields. The Lobos plan to practice at all different times of day to adjust to different types of weather.

🔼 Listen Up. Need something else to listen to on your morning commute? Get yourself even more ready for some Lobo football with the Mountain West Wire’s 2023 New Mexico Football Preview. They discuss all of the new additions to Lobo football, such as new coordinators, quarterback, and other transfers.

🔼 Eight Is Great. Eight volleyball players made the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete teamKaitlynn Biassou, Madison Blanco, Uxue Guereca, Alena Moldan, Lauryn Payne, Melissa Walden, Kali Wolf, and Elizabeth Woods. The volleyball team also received the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this summer. The season is coming up in just 15 short days! The Lobos will host New Mexico Highlands in an exhibition game in The Pit on August 19.

🔼 Movin’ On Up. Assistant baseball coach Matt Risdon got a promotion from Coach Tod Brown this week. He went from volunteer assistant to full-time assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Coach Risdon started his coaching career at Western Illinois after playing baseball there. He was the director of operations before becoming a graduate assistant and then recruiting coordinator. He then coached at Lenoir-Rhyne as an assistant for three seasons, the team went 46-13 in his final year.

🎉 Welcome Party. We’re also welcoming a new assistant coach to New Mexico baseball, Justin Mitchell. He spent last season at Kansas State as a graduate assistant coach. The Wildcats went 35-24 and made it to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship. He also played one season at Kansas State as a graduate transfer catcher. Prior to K-State, he played at Oklahoma.
