Lobos Brew 1/20: Never Trailed

We're recapping the weekend.

Good morning, Lobo Fans! “If you can’t fly then run, If you can’t run then walk, If you can’t walk then crawl, But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, we pause to honor a man who moved our country and our society forward in so many ways. As we celebrate victories, moments, and stories in each and every Brew, let us remember those who helped pave the paths before us.

What else is Brewin’ today?

🔺 Never Trailed. The men’s basketball team led the entire game in Friday’s 84-65 win over Boise State! It was Boise State’s largest margin of loss this season. Donovan Dent and Nelly Junior Joseph led the Lobos with 16 points. Joseph was just one rebound from a double-double. The Lobos matched their best eight-game start to a Mountain West season at 7-1.

🔺 Handled The Rams. The women’s basketball team got an impressive 78-74 win over Colorado State on the road! Viané Cumber became a member of the 1,000-point club as she led the Lobos with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Joana Magalhães scored a season-high 20 points. Alyssa Hargrove finished with a career-high nine rebounds, a game-high six assists, and a team-high three steals. It was an all-around successful day!

🔺 Solid Showing. New Mexico swim & dive went 1-2 in Colorado as they defeated Seattle and lost to Air Force and Colorado State. Isabella Gomez won the 1-meter dive with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 280.40. The 184 points scored by the Lobo were the most against a Division I opponent since January 2020.

We’re honoring the National Day of Racial Healing at tonight’s Lobos men’s basketball game versus Fresno. See what our athletes had to say about building common ground on and off the court.
