🔺 Top Of The Mountain. The men’s and women’s cross country teams swept the Mountain West titles! They also swept the individual titles, making it a double sweep for the first time since 2012. Pamela Kosgei became the first freshman to win an individual championship and Habtom Samuel became the first man to win back-to-back individual titles since 2006. After the races, Kosgei was named the Mountain West Freshman and Athlete of the Year. Samuel earned his second Mountain West Athlete of the Year award. Vincent Chirchir was named Men’s Freshman of the Year as he finished runner-up. Darren Gauson was named the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year.
🔺 Time For Tip-Off. The men’s basketball team officially begins the 2024-25 season tonight! They’ll host Nicholls at The Pit at 7 p.m. Tickets are available here, and fans will have a chance to take photos with the 2024 Mountain West Championship trophy before the game. The Lobos are 91-30 all-time in season openers and have won 21 straight.
🔺 Breakfast With The Lobos. The women’s basketball season will also start today. The Lobos will host Northern Arizona at 11 a.m. for the Field Trip Day game. Approximately 662 kids from 10 local elementary schools will be in attendance. Click here to purchase tickets!
🔺 Late-Game Loss. Lobo football fell to Wyoming 49-45 after a Cowboy pick-six that set up a fourth quarter comeback. There were 10 touchdowns in the first half as the game went into halftime tied at 35. Devon Dampier scored a touchdown on the longest run ever by a Lobo quarterback, running 85 yards. He threw for 164 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 207 with three touchdowns. Eli Sanders added 205 rushing yards and two touchdowns. New Mexico is averaging 480.1 total yards per game.
