🔺 Etched In History. The indoor track & field season began on Saturday as the Lobos competed at Boston’s Sharon Danville-Colyear Season Opener! Pamela Kosgei set a program record with the fourth-fastest 5,000m time in collegiate history. She shattered the Lobo record by more than 14 seconds. The performance nearly guarantees her a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. Collins Kiprotich ran the eighth-fastest indoor 3,000m time in program history, while Vincent Chirchir ran the ninth-fastest 5,000m time.
🔺 Never Gave Up. The men’s basketball team rallied to send Saturday’s game against New Mexico State into overtime but fell short, losing 89-83. The Lobos came back from a 15-point deficit in the second half, but NMSU went on a 10-0 run in OT. Nelly Junior Joseph scored 16 points while tying a career-high with 17 rebounds. Donovan Dent scored 15 and Braden Appelhans tied a career-high 14 points. The Lobos will host Western New Mexico on Saturday at 5 p.m.
🔺 Couldn’t Get Ahead. The women’s basketball team dropped two games to New Mexico State over the weekend. They fell 81-71 on Friday in a game that had 13 lead changes and five ties. Viané Cumber, Destinee Hooks, and Alyssa Hargrove finished in double figures. They fell to the Aggies again on Sunday, this time losing 68-60. Destinee Hooks scored 27 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double. Hulda Joaquim also accomplished a double-double, scoring 12 points with a career-high 14 rebounds.
