Lobos Brew 6/1: Competing for Championships
Plus: The schedule drops today for New Mexico's season in The Pit!
Good morning, New Mexico. Habtom Samuel and Matthew Endrödy will compete for a championship! Both punched tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final day of men's competition at the West Preliminaries. Samuel won the 5,000-meter semifinal in 13:38.12, closing with the only sub-minute final 400 in the field, and will contest both the 5K and 10K at nationals for the third straight year. He remains unbeaten against collegiate competition across the entire 2025-26 academic year.

Endrödy qualified in the 1,500 meters for his first outdoor nationals appearance, becoming the first New Mexico man to advance in the event since Josh Kerr and Ian Crowe-Wright in 2018.

🔺 Running Wild. New Mexico's women punched three tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final day at the West Preliminaries. Taniya Looney delivered a breakout performance with a sub-11 100-meter quarterfinal (10.85) and a program-record 22.66 in the 200, becoming the first Lobo woman to qualify in both sprints since Barbara Bell in 1984. Pamela Kosgei and Marion Jepngetich secured their returns to the 5,000-meter final after finishing first and fourth nationally last season, with Kosgei also set to defend her 10,000-meter title. Eva Ngom came agonizingly close in the 400 meters, missing a qualifying spot by just .17 seconds.
