🔺 Habtom’s Heroics. Lobo track & field star Habtom Samuel has a “Heart of a Champion.” His story began in a village in Eritrea where he walked seven kilometers to school and seven back every day. His father pushed him to seek an education in the U.S., and Samuel wanted to follow the path of former Lobo Weini Kelati. He finally successfully escaped Eritrea in the spring of 2023 and made his way to Albuquerque.

He made an immediate impact the moment he put on that Lobo uniform. Now, he prepares for a trip to Eugene, Oregon where he will compete in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. Click here to read more about Habtom Samuel’s journey.

🔺 First Week Down. Lobo football is putting in the work! The first Lobo of the Week is linebacker Jaxton Eck. He transferred to New Mexico as a junior from Idaho. He started and played in all 14 games last season, earning FCS All-America honors and First Team All-Big Sky honors. We’re excited to have Jaxton in Cherry & Silver!
