Lobos Brew 2/16: Lobos Sweep 4-Game Series
The Lobos beat Fordham four times and run-ruled them three times.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Opening Weekend. The baseball team opened its season against Fordham. The Lobos won their first game on Friday, 10-9 in walk-off fashion. The men erased a five-run deficit and won the game on 13 hits. UNM finished the weekend with a doubleheader sweep. The Lobos run-ruled Fordham 18-8 and 16-6 on Saturday. New Mexico had a total of 27 hits and three home runs in the doubleheader. The men won their final game of the weekend 24-5 against Fordham in seven innings. This marks their third run-rule win in a row. UNM had 16 hits. Throughout the weekend, Gene Trujillo recorded a team-high 10 RBI’s.

🔺 On Track. The track and field team competed in the Don Kirby Elite. On Friday, Rebecca Grieve broke her own UNM 400m Program Record set last week. Ajia Hughes broke a high jump record that had stood since 2018. The team also competed at the UW Husky Classic. Habtom Samuel set a new school record in the 3,000m.

🔺 Court Report. The women’s tennis team was on the road on Friday and beat Idaho 4-1. Yu Yun “Kathy” Tsai became the first Lobo to move into double-figures in doubles with her 10th win. New Mexico continued its winning streak against South Dakota on Saturday. The Lobos won 6-1.

🔺 Top 4. The No. 19 men’s golf team wrapped up the John A. Burns Intercollegiate. The team finished in fourth place with a score of 839 (-1). Mesa Falleur led the Lobos with a third-place individual finish. He shot six under par. Johnnie Clark followed with a 14th-place individual finish.

🔺 Tourney Done. The softball team finished play at the Mardi Gras Mambo. New Mexico had one win against Northwestern, 6-4, in the tournament. The Lobos had eight hits. Caitlin Benningfield and Miracle McKenzie led the team with two hits. Caprice Barela got the win on the mound after pitching 2.2 innings.

🔺 Round 2. The women’s golf team played round two of the Alice and John Wallace Golf Classic. The Lobos are in 14th place at 44-over par. Ava Cepeda leads the team. She is in 30th place individually at 6-over par.
