🔺  Top Scholar. Baseball player Akili Carris was named the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He is the fifth Lobo men’s student-athlete to earn the league’s highest academic honor. Carris earned his undergraduate degree in business administration in just three years with a 4.00 GPA. Carris has also nearly completed his master’s in business administration while again achieving a perfect 4.00 GPA. The Summa Cum Laude grad was UNM’s Nusenda Credit Union Scholar-Athlete of the Month four times in his career.

🔺  Finalist. Men’s cross county and track and field athlete Habtom Samuel was named a finalist for The Bowerman. The Bowerman Advisory Board is a panel of track & field experts from around the nation who select finalists based on performances recorded during the 2026 indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. Only performances from December 1, 2025, through the conclusion of the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, were eligible for consideration. The winner will be named at the annual USTFCCCA Convention, which will be held at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, on Dec. 17.
