🔺 Duck, Duck, Lobos. Lobo soccer didn’t let Oregon leave the pond with a win! The Lobos took down the Big Ten Ducks, 3-1. They outshot Oregon 19-8. Alyssa Whelchel scored her first career goal to get the scoring started! Presley Devey scored the second goal of the game after earning her first career assist. Nicole Anderson scored the final goal of the game in the 56th minute. This was the third win over a Power conference opponent under Coach Heather Dyche.
“I thought the girls absolutely, from the minute the whistle blew, I thought we were not afraid at all today. I’m really proud of them.”
🔺 Second Half Struggles. The Lobos looked to start the season with a win as they went into the fourth quarter with a 31-14 lead. The Lobo defense scored two touchdowns, both scoop and scores after Montana State fumbles. The offense was also responsible for two touchdowns thanks to Devon Dampier and Trace Bruckler. Dampier’s naked bootleg for the score went viral on social media.
It was a perfect game until the fourth quarter rolled around and Montana State outscored the Lobos 21-0. The Bobcats took their first lead of the game with 10 seconds remaining and the Lobos fell 35-31. Despite the loss, there were promising aspects of the game.
🏈 Up next, the Lobos will head to Arizona on Saturday.
🔺 Lobos On Top. The MLB’s first Home Run Derby X in Albuquerque was a success for Team Lobos! Current Lobo baseball player Gene Trujillo teamed up with Lobo softball legend Andrea Howard to win the competition. Lobo baseball alum Jared Mang was on Team Green Chile Cheeseburgers but still represented the Lobos well as he was named MVP.
