Good morning! The start of Lobo soccer is just 6 days away and the ladies hit the field for practice this week. See what they have been up to and get ready for the season! The first game is an exhibition match at home against UTEP on Wednesday, August 9 at 11:00am.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 She’s The Woman. Lobo graduate Amelia Mazza-Downie has been named the Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year! During the 2022-23 season, she was named Mountain West Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year and Mountain West Female Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year, so it’s only fitting that she receives this honor too. She earned four All-American honors last season — you read that right, just one season. Last fall, she became the second woman in school history to win back-to-back Mountain West titles and led the Lobos to a national runner-up finish. Amelia is the third Lobo track & field/cross country runner to be named Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year.

🔼 The Right Guy. New Mexico’s Aaron Rodriguez has caught the eye of the voters across the country, he made the preseason watch list for the 2023 Ray Guy Award which honors the nation’s best punter. Last season, he led the country in total punts and has a career average of 44.2 yards per kick — ranking third on the Lobos list. He was a Second Team All-Mountain West selection last season. Candidates for the award will be announced on November 6 and the winner will be announced in December at The Home Depot College Football Awards.

🔼 Stage Is Set. The Ball Dawgs Classic stage has been set! This is the tournament happening in Las Vegas during the week of Thanksgiving, November 21-24. The Lobos will play Toledo on Tuesday, Rice on Wednesday, and wrap things up against Pepperdine on Friday. Toledo and New Mexico have never met before, but the Lobos have a winning record against Rice (6-2) and Pepperdine (5-2).
