Lobos Brew 8/9: Top of the Morning
Today, Lobo soccer is officially back this morning.
Good morning! Would you rather fight one horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horses? That was a question in fall camp this week, so which would you choose? Click here to find out what the football players chose!
What all is steeping in today’s Brew?
⚽️ Back on the pitch
🏈 24 more days until kickoff
🐺 And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Top Of The Morning. The Lobos soccer season starts today! A free exhibition match against UTEP will take place at the UNM Soccer Complex at 11:00am. There will be one more chance to catch the team before the regular season starts with another exhibition match against CSU Pueblo on Monday, August 14. The regular season will start August 17 when Texas Tech comes to town. Last year, the Lobos took a piece of the Mountain West regular-season championship for the third-straight season.
🔼 Double Trouble. There are 24 days until kickoff and there are two No. 24’s on our roster! One of them should be a familiar name to Lobo fans, as his brother has been New Mexico’s top receiver for the last two seasons.
🏈 Evan Wysong is a freshman wide receiver from Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho. He was a First Team All-State quarterback and athlete. He was the 2021 and 2022 MaxPreps Player of the Year and the 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year for New Mexico. He can play anywhere the offense needs him — he threw for 3,791 yards and 47 touchdowns, rushed for 2,276 yards and 30 touchdowns, and caught one 80-yard touchdown. His brother, Luke Wysong, has been with the Lobos since 2021 as the leading receiver.
🏈 Jayden Wilson is a freshman linebacker from Austin High School in El Paso, Texas. He was named the 2022 Defensive MVP, First Team All-City at linebacker in 2021 & 2022, and First Team All-City at running back in 2022. Our pair of No. 24’s are some pretty versatile guys!
🔼 Crossing Things Off. The 2023 cross country schedule is here! The Lobos will start things off in Las Cruces for the Lori Fitzgerald Open, before coming home to host the Lobo Invitational. They’ll have two more regular season meets before the Mountain West Conference Championships, the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships, and the NCAA Championships.
