Lobos Brew 3/2: Track & Field MW CHAMPS!

The women's track & field won the Indoor Mountain West Championship.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Top Finishes. The track and field team competed at the Mountain West Championship this past weekend. On day one, Habtom Samuel and Pamela Kosgei swept the men’s and women’s 5000m titles. On day two, 10 women and five men qualified to event finals in their respective events in preliminary action. Aija Hughes scored eight points for the women in the high jump and long jump. On the final day, the women won the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field team title for the second year in a row. The men finished in second place.

🔺 Series Sweep. The baseball team swept its series against St. Thomas. The men won 11-6, 5-1, 4-3 and 7-3. This marks the third-straight series win for the Lobos. In the doubleheader on Saturday, Gene Trujillo hit .667 with two doubles, a home run, two RBIs and a 1.500 slugging percentage. Brodey Williams went 3-for-4 at the plate on Sunday with two runs and one RBI.

🔺 The Hosts. The softball team hosted the UNM Invitational. The Lobos started with an 8-7, eight inning win over UTEP. They fell to Tarleton State 6-3. On Saturday, the women beat Houston Christian 11-2 in five innings and Tarleton State 5-0. UNM finished the weekend with a 3-2 win against Houston Christian on Sunday. The Lobos are now 6-0 when leading after the sixth inning and 8-2 when leading after the fifth inning.

🔺 Split. The women’s tennis team had a doubleheader on Saturday. The Lobos fell in the opening match to Abilene Christian 4-2. The women came back to beat Lubbock Christian 4-0. UNM is now 8-3 this season.

🔺 Sold Out Victory. The men’s basketball team beat San Diego State 81-76 in front of a sold-out home crowd on Saturday. The Lobos rallied from down 11 in the first half. Tomislav Buljan dominated with 24 points and 18 rebounds. Luke Haupt added 17 points. Jake Hall had 14 points.

🔺 Comeback. The women’s basketball team had a comeback win over Nevada on Saturday. UNM won 63-56. This marks the team’s fourth win in a row. Cacia Antonio had a team-high 18 points.

🔺 Day One. The No. 19 men’s golf team played its first day at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Sunday. The Lobos shot 5-over during the opening round and are tied for 12th place after 18 holes. Mesa Falleur and Wyatt Provence each shot even to par.
