📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Tourney Time. The volleyball team is starting their Mountain West Tournament run today at 5pm! They earned the 6-seed and will play 3-seeded UNLV, who happens to be the host school. The Lobos split their regular season series with UNLV, sweeping them the first time and falling in four the second. New Mexico finished the regular season tied for fourth in the conference. If the Lobos win tonight, they’ll play No. 2 Colorado State tomorrow at 5pm.

🔼 Victory In Vegas. The men’s basketball team got the week in Las Vegas started with a W! They got the 92-84 win over Toledo last night. JT Toppin and Jamal Mashburn Jr. matched each other with 27 points each. JT added a double-double with 11 rebounds while Nelly Joseph had 10 boards. Donovan Dent had a solid night with 17 points and seven assists. They’ll continue the week at the Ball Dawgs Classic tonight with a game against Rice at 7:45pm.

🔼 Mission Accomplished. The women’s diving team spent the weekend at the Lumberjack Diving Invitational at Northern Arizona University. On the final day, Kristen Hepfer qualified for zones! She finished fifth in the platform event with an overall score of 227.30, a career-best for the senior. The team will compete again in December at the UNLV Invitational.

🔼  Beachin’. The women’s basketball team is in Cancun, Mexico! No, not for vacation or to eat turkey on the beach — they’re playing in the Cancun Challenge! They play tomorrow on Thanksgiving against Montana State at 7pm, and we’re hoping to be thankful for a win. The Lobos are currently 4-0 and have had a week long break, while Montana State is 2-2. On Friday, they’ll play Georgia Tech at 7pm. You can stream all of the Cancun Challenge with a FloHoops subscription.

🐺 ONE BIG THING

Blaine Smith and Jay Morgan came to New Mexico from different schools, but their journey to becoming players wasn’t easy. Blaine transferred from the New Mexico Military Institution and Jay from New Mexico Highlands. They started off working with the Lobo equipment staff. After having to prove themselves, they earned spots on the team and never looked back.
