Lobos Brew 4/24: Waslefsky Shortstop Semifinalist
Baseball player Karsen Waslefsky is a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award.

🔺 Semifinalist. Baseball player Karsen Waslefsky is a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award. The award recognizes the top shortstop in college baseball. Waslefsky has started 38 of 40 possible games at shortstop for the Lobos this season and is batting .288 on the season with 35 runs, 30 RBI, seven doubles, five homers and a triple. He’s fielding at a .976 clip with 118 assists and 44 putouts on 166 opportunities and has stolen 10 bases on 11 attempts.

🔺 Happening Tomorrow! The Spring Football Fiesta is Saturday! UNM athletics will have its always-popular Equipment Surplus Sale in the Indoor Practice Facility. The sale will start at 9am with the official line forming at 7:30am. Fans must enter Gate 7 (Northeast gate) of University Stadium and proceed through the stadium to help with containment and crowd flow. The line will go through the stadium and over to the Indoor Practice Facility. Fans will exit the IPF through the soccer stadium and out Gate 8.

🔺 Conference Honor. Men’s tennis player Dario Ciobotaru was named to the All-Mountain West Singles Team. Ciobotaru has a 10-6 record at the No. 1 singles spot prior to the Mountain West Tournament.

🔺 Top 9. The women’s golf team finished tied for ninth at the 2026 Mountain West Championship. New Mexico had a final score of 912 (+48). Ciara Rushmer led the Lobos with a score of 225 (+9), tying for 23rd individually.

🔺 Season Finale. The men’s and women’s tennis teams wrapped up the Mountain West Tournament on Wednesday. The men fell to Boise State 4-0 in the quarterfinals. The women fell to Wyoming 4-2 in the opening round.
