🔼 Feeling Historic. Some might call them the Lobo women’s tennis team, others may call them 2024 Mountain West Champions — both are correct. The women’s tennis team won their first outright Mountain West regular season championship in program history! They swept Air Force 4-0 on Friday at their place. The Lobos now own the No. 1 seed in the Mountain West Tournament, a tournament they won in 2015.

🔼  Sweet Sweep. Lobo softball completed their first sweep over a Mountain West opponent since 2016! They swept Utah State for the first time since 1989. They started the weekend hot, hitting five home runs in Friday’s 9-6 win thanks to Keyannah Chavez, Chloe Yeatts, Ashley Archuleta, DeNae Vasquez-Dickson, and Katherine Brunner. The dogs and the alumni in the park cheered the Lobos on to a 3-2 victory on Saturday to win the series. The Aggies were held to six scoreless innings in a McKenna Guest pitching masterclass. The sweep was completed in Sunday’s 6-5 win. Katherine Brunner brought in the first three Lobo runs and finished with two hits. Rachael Hathoot extended her on-base streak to 27, recording two hits as well.

🔼 Banana Split. Weather caused Lobo baseball to play a Sunday doubleheader at Air Force and the games split between the two teams. The Lobos tied the series in the first game of the day with a 6-5 win. The Falcons were held scoreless for five innings after hitting a home run. Brett Russell earned hit third win of the season. Wil Bannister picked up his third-straight save in three innings of relief. Will Asby went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, a home run, and four RBI. The second game of the day didn’t go as well for the Lobos, they fell 18-7. Reed Spenrath contributed a home run and two hits. Tye Wood finished the day 5-for-7 with two doubles, a trouble, and two RBI. The Lobos will be back at it at Texas Tech tomorrow.

🐺 ONE BIG THING

Habtom Samuel secured his spot in NCAA West Prelims at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open. He ran a converted 28:03.30 10K which is good for third in the nation and qualifies for NCAAs. Other highlights of the meet include Lauren Fowler’s long jump win at 6.42m and Maja Gebauer won the pole vault.
