Lobos Brew 5/3: Weight list

Today, we're still in disbelief about some of these personal records from Night of Champions.

Good morning! This morning, we’re taking our coffee with sugar, a little bit of cream, and this video of nine batters in a row getting hits last night over New Mexico State. Drink it in, y’all.

What else are we throwing into today’s Brew?

🔼 The Aggie-ny Of Defeat. Nine consecutive hits in the bottom of the second inning led to an eight-run frame that ultimately decided last night’s Rio Grande Rivalry baseball contest at Santa Ana Star Field, as host New Mexico topped New Mexico State 14-6 in a weather-shortened contest.

With unexpected lightning landing in the vicinity of the field after the top of the eighth inning, the teams agreed to end the contest with the Lobos ahead by eight runs. New Mexico won its fourth straight game and improved to 23-17, while New Mexico state slipped to 11-29 with the defeat.

The Lobos strung together 10 hits in an inning for the first time since the 2017 season, as Kyle Smith and Justin Olson led off the game-deciding second inning with back-to-back home runs and the Lobos never looked back. Chase Weissenborn and Braydon Runion each had two-run doubles, and Lenny Junior Ashby and Justin Olson each had RBI-singles to cap the eight-run inning.

Next Up: The Lobos return to Mountain West Conference play with a three-game series at UNLV kicking off on Friday night.

🔼 Order Up. Want to see how well some New Mexico student-athletes know their way around the kitchen? Introducing our newest series: M'tucci's Munchies. In the first episode, Chef Damien teaches goalkeeper Alli Davis and linebacker Alec Marenco how to whip up the best grilled cheese this side of the Mississippi.

🔼  Weight List. With his little siblings cheering him on, Andrew Henry hit a personal record four times (including an out-of-this-world 615 pound lift on the squat!) to obliterate the previous position record. He joined Christian Ellis who set a position record for safeties to highlight a raucous Night of Champions in front of a packed house in the Tow Diehm End Zone Complex earlier this week.

Overall, 19 players competed over three events with five in the power clean and seven each in the bench and squat. Overall there were 12 personal records set on the night and two other ones were tied.
