📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Back-To-Back. Men’s tennis player Arda Azkara is your back-to-back Mountain West Player of the Year! He’s the first player to go back-to-back in the conference since 2004. He landed on the All-Mountain West Singles Team and the Doubles Team alongside his partner Alex Maggs. The men’s tennis team will kick off the Mountain West Tournament today with a 6 pm matchup with UNLV.

🔼 Keep ‘Em Comin’. The Mountain West honors rolled over to the women’s team as three Lobos were honored. Hsuan Huang and Katherine Jhang were named All-Mountain West Singles, while Katherine and Leonie Hoppe received All-Mountain West Doubles honors. The Lobos just secured the Mountain West regular season title and they’ll look to win this week’s conference tournament.

🔼  Why Not Both? For the fourth time this track season, Habtom Samuel has been named the Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete and Freshman of the Week! He ran the third-fastest 10,000m time in the nation and best in the conference at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open. He’s ran a time that ranks top three in the nation in different events in back-to-back weeks.

🔼  Wrecked ‘Em. The Lobos got their revenge at Texas Tech yesterday with a 17-3 win. New Mexico racked up 21 hits and hits four home runs on the road. Will Asby was responsible for two of those homers, while Chase Weissenborn and Khalil Walker hit their first of the year. Eight Lobos finished with multiple hits at the end of the day. The Lobo pitching staff deserves their flowers as well. Josh Barnhouse allowed one run across 3.1 innings and struck out three. Brian McBroom, Jaren Jackson, and Wil Bannister pitched scoreless frames.

🔼 He’ll Take An Arnold Palmer. Men’s golfer Bastien Amat will compete at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup. He was one of 12 players to be chosen to play on the International Team this summer. He’ll be representing his home country of France and will be the third Lobo to compete in the competition. The Arnold Palmer Cup will be held on the coast of Ireland, July 5-7.

🐺 ONE BIG THING

Yesterday, we introduced you to the Mountain West 25th Season Men’s Tennis Team. Today, we’re telling you which former tennis players made the Women’s Team. Former Lobo Iva Gersic made the singles team. She’s tied for seventh all-time in singles wins at New Mexico. Two former duos made the doubles list — Iva and Maja Kovacek & Sandy Lukowski and Maja Kovacek. Maja is the Lobos all-time leader with 119 doubles wins. These three ladies are the only three All-Americans in program history.
